The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is offering a remote volunteer opportunity to support the Climate Promise team within the UNDP Climate Hub. The selected volunteer will review, edit, and proofread content published on the Climate Promise website and its French-language translations, ensuring linguistic accuracy, consistency, and the correct use of climate-related terminology.

This opportunity is ideal for professionals and students with backgrounds in translation, editing, French language studies, or communications who are interested in contributing to global knowledge-sharing on climate action and sustainable development.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Review and proofread content translated from English into French.
  • Ensure accuracy in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and language usage.
  • Maintain consistency in terminology and editorial style across all documents.
  • Improve the clarity, readability, and overall flow of content.
  • Review references, footnotes, citations, and document formatting.
  • Coordinate with the Climate Hub team and UN offices when necessary.
  • Prepare and finalize content for publication in accordance with UNDP standards and guidelines.

Eligibility criteria

  • Proven experience in French-language editing and proofreading.
  • Good understanding of climate change, climate action, and sustainability issues.
  • Previous experience translating, reviewing, or editing content related to development, environmental issues, or humanitarian work.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage assignments efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance.
  • Familiarity with United Nations editorial and publication standards is an advantage.
  • French: Native or near-native proficiency.
  • English: Advanced proficiency.
