UNICEF South Africa is offering a national volunteer opportunity for the position of Programme Planning and Monitoring Officer in Pretoria through the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme.
The assignment aims to support programme planning, monitoring, reporting, evaluation, and knowledge management functions within UNICEF South Africa’s 2026–2030 country programme.
The volunteer will work with programme and management teams, government counterparts, United Nations agencies, and other partners to help improve work plans, monitor performance indicators, analyze data, prepare donor and corporate reports, and support monitoring systems and dashboards.

Duties & responsibilities
- Support the preparation, updating, and monitoring of annual and rolling work plans.
- Contribute to the organization and follow-up of annual, semi-annual, mid-term, and final programme reviews.
- Support the preparation and review of corporate and results reports.
- Monitor output and outcome indicators, targets, and data sources.
- Collect, verify, analyze, and present programme performance data.
- Support field visits, partner reviews, and follow-up on corrective actions.
- Update databases, tracking tools, and dashboards.
- Support the use of the Data for Children Dashboard.
- Monitor donor reporting schedules and submission deadlines.
- Contribute to the preparation and review of donor reports and proposals.
- Support knowledge management and the organization of institutional documents and content.
- Organize learning events and the exchange of best practices.
- Support joint planning and reporting processes with United Nations agencies and partners.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must:
- Be between 18 and 60 years old.
- Be a citizen, legal resident, or recognized refugee in South Africa.
- Have at least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields:
- Social Sciences.
- Public Policy.
- Development Studies.
- Statistics.
- Economics.
- Public Administration.
- Monitoring and Evaluation.
- Research Methodology.
- Or a related field that includes a research component.
- Postgraduate studies or specialized training in Monitoring & Evaluation are considered an advantage.
- Be fluent in English.
