Opportunity description

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) – Tunisia Office is offering a fully funded, full-time national volunteer opportunity for the position of Communication Assistant in Tunis, Tunisia, for a period of 12 months, under the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Programme.

The opportunity targets young people interested in digital communication, content creation, social media management, journalism, public relations, digital marketing, design, and media. It offers participants the chance to gain practical experience within one of the United Nations specialized agencies working in the fields of food security, sustainable agriculture, and rural development.

  • Providing logistical support, covering events, and following up on activities after their completion.

Benefits

The opportunity provides a package of allowances and benefits in accordance with the UNV Conditions of Service for National UN Volunteers, including:

  • A monthly living allowance of TND 1,879.74.
  • A one-time entry lump sum of USD 350 before the start of the assignment.
  • A relocation allowance of USD 175 at the beginning and end of the assignment if the duty station is outside the normal commuting distance, subject to UNV assessment.
  • An end-of-service allowance of USD 120 for each month of service, paid upon successful completion of the assignment.

Duties & responsibilities

The volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the FAO Programme Officer, with responsibilities including:

  • Creating and publishing engaging content for FAO’s social media platforms and digital channels.
  • Helping showcase FAO projects, activities, and results through clear and audience-focused communication materials.
  • Supporting the planning, scheduling, and management of social media content.
  • Monitoring social media performance, analyzing key metrics, and identifying opportunities to improve engagement and reach.
  • Writing success stories, news articles, and communication materials highlighting project achievements and FAO’s impact.
  • Developing beneficiary-focused stories that demonstrate the results of FAO interventions.
  • Producing visual and multimedia content, including graphic designs, photos, and short videos.
  • Using digital tools and artificial intelligence tools to create high-quality, creative content tailored to different platforms.
  • Supporting the organization of events, including preparing communication materials, managing participants, coordinating logistics, covering events, and conducting post-event follow-up.

Eligibility criteria

To apply, candidates must:

  • Be between 18 and 80 years old.
  • Be a Tunisian citizen, a legal resident of Tunisia, or hold refugee status in Tunisia.
  • Have at least one month of relevant experience.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields or a related discipline:
