Opportunity description
Franconia Sculpture Park is pleased to announce the opportunity for seven accomplished writers to join the Writers Residency program in 2023, which will last for two-week residency at the 50-acre outdoor sculpture park. Writers span a range of arts-focused disciplines who will get personal and professional opportunities to thrive, as they will immerse themselves in the new environment and embrace the time and space to move forward in their work. You will be asked to choose a two-week stay:
- January 11-25, 2023
- October 11-25, 2023
Benefits
If you get this opportunity, you will have:
- $1000 stipend. Collabs must split artist stipend.
- A communal residency experience where artists live on-site at the 4500 sq. ft farmhouse.
- Airport Pickup + Dropoff.
- Residents with an interest or practice in art writing will have the possibility to publish a piece with Mn Artists, the Walker Museum’s platform for interdisciplinary arts writing.
- Professional development opportunities such as access to field trips and an online public reading may be available.
- Ability to return to Franconia as an Alumni member.

Eligibility criteria
You should follow the following criteria:
- Be 21+ years of age, showing a strong professional working history.
- Stay for two weeks.
- Curators, poets, songwriters, playwrights, writers (fiction or nonfiction), artists centered on contemporary cultural arts and theory, academics on sabbatical, etc. are considered.
- Small collaborative groups of two may apply and must combine shared professional experience into one resume with both artists listed. Pay only one application fee.
- International artists may apply.
- Alumni may reapply.
- Fees:
- $25 non-refundable application fee is due via the Submittable platform.
- FREE to apply for the first two weeks (June 1 – June 15).
- Alumni pay $15 application fee.
Please note: You will be responsible for:
- Travel expenses to and from Franconia and ground travel while staying at Franconia.
- Expected to prepare shared meals for group meals at 6 pm nightly.
- Maintain a quiet atmosphere between 9 am – 5 pm and 8 pm onward.
- Two weekly meet-ups with all residents and the residency director are mandatory.

Your applications will be scored according to the criteria:
- Artistic merit.
- A demonstrated connection to the site.
- A thoughtful connection to the theme.
