ESCWA is pleased to announce Arab Youth Photo competition on Quality of Life in Cities, which was launched as part of the global QoL Initiative, which aims to develop a comprehensive and people-centered concept of quality of life. This competition invites Arab youth to unleash their imagination and reveal to the world through their photographs what quality of life in cities means to them. It represents an exceptional opportunity to showcase the beauty, challenges and innovations that reflect Arab youth’s vision of quality of life in cities using photography.

- Participation in the forums that will be held in Cairo in 2024.
- Photo Gallery: Selected photos will be displayed in virtual and physical exhibitions.
Eligibility criteria
You must follow the following criteria:
- The competition is open to professional and amateur photographers from different backgrounds and experience levels, holding Arab nationality.
- Participants must be between 18 and 35 years old.
- You must highlight local contexts in your entries and show how the image reflects the quality of urban life in your city.
- You can participate with a maximum of three photos.
- The following specifications must be taken into consideration in submitting photographs:
- The file size must be between 2000 and 6000 pixels.
- The file must be in JPEG, JPG, or PNG format.
- The file size must not exceed 5000 KB (5 MB).
- Each file must be accompanied by a description that includes:
- Brief description: A description of what the photograph captures and/or the person(s) in it.
- The name of the city, region, state, and country where the photograph was taken.
- The date the photograph was taken.
- Photos that appear to have been excessively manipulated may be disqualified, according to the judging committee’s criteria.
- By participating in this competition, you grant ESCWA a waiver, license and right to use the submitted materials for the competition.
Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA):
ESCWA was established in 1973, it is one of five regional commissions under the jurisdiction of the United Nations Economic and Social Council. The role of the Commission is to promote the economic and social development of Western Asia through regional and subregional cooperation and integration. It plays a critical role in promoting a holistic approach to development in their regions and balancing the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development in their member States.
