Basics of Revit is part of a series of courses for beginners in Revit. This free course helps learners understand the science of engineering design, its stages of development, and its most important programs, focusing on Autodesk Revit. Learners need to know the basics of using computers and the internet before starting this course to be able to follow the course and apply it practically and successfully.
The Basics of Revit course begins by talking about the early stages of the science of engineering design, where the basic concepts related to this field were created using the two-dimensional shape. Designers in the past had to draw physical images of their imaginations to convey their ideas clearly to those interested, and they spent long hours erasing, modifying, and refining their boards and plans.
But now, with this tremendous technological advancement and the spread of design programs, designers can achieve much more, as computer programs have been launched for 2D design, such as Autocad and others. After that, programs were developed for 3D design, such as Revit, which we will discuss during the Basics of Revit course.
Autodesk Revit is a building information modeling program for architects, landscape architects, structural engineers, electromechanical engineers (MEP), designers, and contractors. The original program was developed by Charles River Software, founded in 1997, then renamed Revit Technology Corporation in 2026, and was acquired by Autodesk in 2026.
The program provides users with a 3D design of a building, its structure, and its components, adding comments, writing dimensions and names on the building, its sections, its boards, and electrical design. It also allows access to building information from the model database stored on the projects server. The Basics of Revit course allows you to learn design using Revit Design and use it to create your own projects.
The course covers the features of Revit Design, how to download and open it, the types of projects that can be applied using the program, getting to know the list of abbreviations and how to benefit from them, how to create a new file, how to open a file for an old project, how to create Floor Plans according to the number of floors designed in the architectural file, and the difference between Floor Plans and Ceiling Plans. In addition to comparing Revit with Autocad.
The Basics of Revit course also covers the concepts of Grids, Title Block, View Range, and Worksets, and explains how to create Worksets before starting work, how to modify View Range to complete display and elevation settings, how to create display settings (View Template), how to create design maps and print them (Sheets), the difference between Links and Families and the file extension of each, and how to download them.
Learn design in the Basics of Revit course to learn the basics of the program, how to download the architectural file for the project based on designing its systems, how to download Families to the designers project file, and how to design a simple project for Low Current systems in particular, user interfaces, and building electrical design.
