Opportunity description

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is offering an opportunity for the position of Project Coordinator in Algeria under a joint project with Sonatrach and with support from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). The project aims to strengthen Sonatrach’s capacity to monitor and reduce methane emissions, enhance Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) systems, and support strategic studies related to green hydrogen and the energy transition. The selected candidate will oversee technical and financial project activities, coordinate with government partners, experts, and donors, and ensure implementation in line with international standards and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Manage and implement daily project activities in accordance with the approved work plan.
  • Coordinate with Sonatrach, the Ministry of Energy and Mines, and international partners.
  • Oversee technical studies related to methane emissions reduction and green hydrogen development.
  • Monitor the performance of consultants and service providers and ensure the quality of project deliverables.
  • Prepare technical, financial, monitoring, and evaluation reports.
  • Manage environmental and institutional risks and ensure compliance with international standards and requirements.
  • Organize meetings, workshops, and stakeholder consultations, and follow up on the implementation of agreed actions.
  • Document lessons learned and promote knowledge sharing, collaboration, and strategic partnerships.

Eligibility criteria

  • Master’s degree in Project Management, Environmental Engineering, Energy Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Development Economics, or a related field.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree with an additional two years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in managing development, energy, climate, or emissions reduction projects.
  • Knowledge of energy sector issues, energy transition strategies, or green hydrogen initiatives.
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation, budget management, and reporting.
  • Fluency in Arabic and French, both written and spoken.
  • Previous experience with the United Nations or international donor-funded projects is considered an asset.
