Consultancy Opportunity with UNICEF for Experts in Child Protection and Children’s Rights

UNICEF – United Nations Children’s Fund is seeking a Child Protection Consultant to Support Justice for Children to support its work in justice for children and child protection within the Protection and Migration Programme and the Centre of Excellence in Amman.

The consultancy aims to support the implementation of the Reimagine Justice for Children agenda, which focuses on six key areas: legal empowerment, legal aid and representation, diversion away from formal judicial proceedings, protection from detention, access to justice for survivors of violence, and child-friendly courts and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

The consultant will also provide technical support to UNICEF country and regional offices and contribute to rapid research, knowledge management, global learning, development of technical guidance, and support for webinars, conferences, and international advocacy activities.

The main responsibilities include:

• Providing technical support to governments, UN agencies, and partners on justice for children and child protection.
• Conducting high-quality legal, policy, and programmatic research.
• Supporting the development and review of laws, policies, strategies, and programs related to justice for children.
• Supporting the implementation of the Reimagine Justice for Children agenda.
• Developing technical guidance, knowledge products, and documentation of good practices.
• Supporting knowledge management and communities of practice across UNICEF teams and offices.
• Contributing to the organization and delivery of conferences, forums, webinars, and global advocacy activities.
• Coordinating with teams and partners working across different geographical regions and time zones.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Hold an advanced university degree in law, human rights, international development, public policy, social sciences, or another field related to justice for children and child protection.
• Have at least 8 years of professional experience in justice for children, child protection, human rights, or a related field.
• Demonstrate proven experience in conducting high-quality legal, policy, or programmatic research.
• Have experience providing technical support to governments, UN agencies, or development partners on child protection or justice for children.
• Have experience developing or reviewing laws, policies, strategies, and programs related to justice for children, as well as in knowledge management and the development of technical guidance.
• Possess strong skills in analysis, research, writing, editing, communication, facilitation, and coordination, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively in an international remote environment.
• Be proficient in written and spoken English; proficiency in French or Spanish is considered an additional asset.
