Opportunity description

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is offering an internship opportunity at its Regional Office for Arab States in Cairo. The internship provides students and recent graduates with hands-on experience in external relations, policy research, partnership management, donor engagement, and policy analysis related to disaster risk reduction, climate resilience, and sustainable development. Interns will also support the organization of regional events and contribute to the preparation of analytical studies and materials for partners and donor organizations.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Conduct research and policy analysis related to international affairs, disaster risk reduction, and resilience.
  • Prepare briefing notes, background papers, and analytical profiles on partners, donors, and stakeholders.
  • Support stakeholder mapping and partnership development activities.
  • Contribute to the preparation of communication materials, presentations, reports, and strategic documents.
  • Monitor developments in international policies, donor priorities, and funding strategies.
  • Support the organization of the Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction and other related events.
  • Assist in coordinating relations with governments, international organizations, development partners, and regional stakeholders.


Eligibility criteria

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Master’s degree programme or have recently completed one.
  • Alternatively, applicants may be in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree or be a recent graduate.
  • Demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and international affairs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and international environment.
  • Experience or knowledge in designing surveys, questionnaires, and data collection tools is desirable.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of Arabic is considered an asset.
