Opportunity description

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has opened applications for a Health & Nutrition Officer (NO-2) position based in Qamishli, Syria, within its health and nutrition programmes.

The selected candidate will provide technical and professional support for the design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of UNICEF health and nutrition programmes and projects. The role also includes data analysis, preparation of progress reports, coordination with partners, and capacity building, with the aim of improving the quality and sustainability of health and nutrition services provided to children and families.

The position is particularly important within Syria’s humanitarian context, where UNICEF works with its partners to provide services and assistance in health, nutrition, child protection, education, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and humanitarian response.

Duties & responsibilities

The main responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of health and nutrition programmes.
  • Collecting information, analyzing data, and preparing documents and reports.
  • Contributing to situation analyses and sectoral reports.
  • Providing technical support for the development and implementation of integrated health and nutrition strategies.
  • Coordinating and collaborating with internal and external partners.
  • Preparing and monitoring work plans and ensuring that results are achieved within the required timelines.
  • Monitoring project implementation and identifying necessary adjustments to improve performance and sustainability.
  • Using sex-disaggregated data when monitoring health and nutrition programmes.
  • Monitoring supplies, assistance, and financial resources related to the programmes.
  • Maintaining effective relationships and partnerships for advocacy, technical coordination, and information sharing.
  • Preparing and updating programme reports and information and sharing them with relevant stakeholders.
  • Supporting emergency preparedness and response and coordinating with humanitarian actors working in health and nutrition.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in one of the following fields:

  • Public Health and Nutrition.
  • Child Development.
  • Social Development.
  • Community Development.
  • Or another related field.

Applicants must also have:

  • At least 2 years of professional experience in:
    • Health and nutrition programme planning.
    • Programme development and implementation.
    • Monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience in programme management or working as a technical expert in child health and survival.
  • Field experience.
  • Knowledge of or experience in emergency contexts.
  • Experience in:
    • Health Programme Management.
    • Nutrition Programming.
    • Data Analysis.
    • Monitoring & Evaluation.
    • Stakeholder Coordination.
    • Emergency Response.
