Opportunity description
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Migration Health Physician to work within the Migration Health Division in Cairo, contributing to health examinations and assessments for migrants and refugees, particularly those involved in resettlement and migration programs to Canada and Australia.
The physician will provide direct medical services to beneficiaries, follow up on cases referred to hospitals and medical centers, assess the health needs of vulnerable groups, and contribute to emergency response activities and health awareness initiatives for migrants and host communities.

Duties & responsibilities
- Conduct health assessments for migrants and refugees traveling for resettlement or migration to Canada and Australia.
- Provide medical assistance and healthcare services to beneficiaries of IOM health programs.
- Coordinate medical referrals with hospitals and health centers and follow up on patients’ conditions and progress.
- Support the delivery of healthcare services to migrants within government health facilities when needed.
- Identify the specific health needs of vulnerable individuals and groups and coordinate with relevant health authorities.
- Assess migrants’ health needs and monitor the quality of services and emergency response.
- Follow up on pre-departure medical examinations and assess fitness to travel.
- Provide or coordinate medical escorts during travel for cases requiring health support.
- Deliver health awareness and health promotion activities for migrants and host communities.
- Participate in medical outreach missions and field-based healthcare services.
- Prepare case reports, monthly reports, and statistical reports.
- Represent IOM in health-sector coordination meetings when required.
- Respond to medical emergencies during the day.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a university degree in medicine from an accredited institution, with at least 2 years of continuous clinical experience.
- A master’s degree or specialization in general medicine, emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, anesthesiology, or endocrinology is considered an additional asset.
- Experience in emergency medicine or intensive care is considered an advantage.
- Have experience in community-based work, community engagement, and program monitoring and evaluation.
- Previous experience in emergency settings and managing critical medical cases is preferred.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Have a good understanding of the humanitarian context related to healthcare services for migrants.
