Opportunity description

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has opened applications for the position of Project Coordinator in Ramallah, Palestine. The position is offered under a one-year contract and will support the SHAMSI Palestine project, which aims to advance the transition to renewable energy and strengthen the financial sustainability of local authorities through the development of solar energy projects.

The Project Coordinator will oversee the implementation of day-to-day activities, coordinate with government entities, municipalities, the private sector, and local and international partners, monitor work plans and budgets, prepare reports, and ensure that the project is implemented in accordance with United Nations standards.

The role will also contribute to supporting clean energy initiatives, strengthening local community participation, and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals related to energy, the environment, and local development.

Duties & responsibilities

The Project Coordinator’s responsibilities include:

  • Monitor project plans, activities, and budgets in coordination with the project team and implementing partners.
  • Conduct regular field visits to collect data and monitor implementation progress.
  • Identify project risks and challenges, update risk registers, and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Ensure that gender considerations are integrated across project activities.
  • Manage project correspondence and maintain and regularly update project records and files.
  • Ensure that the project is implemented in accordance with UNDP rules and procedures.
  • Coordinate with government officials, local authorities, the private sector, nongovernmental organizations, and local communities.
  • Promote the participation of women and young people in project activities.
  • Strengthen the capacity of implementing partners and encourage collaboration among them.
  • Contribute to preparing procurement plans, project briefs, and progress reports for donors.
  • Prepare concise monthly reports, field visit reports, and project fact sheets.
  • Document lessons learned, best practices, and success stories.
  • Monitor performance and results indicators in coordination with the results-based management team.
  • Support the development of project communication and promotional materials.
  • Ensure compliance with donor visibility and branding requirements.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Hold at least a high school diploma.
  • Preferably hold a bachelor’s degree in renewable energy, business administration, international development, or a related field.
  • Have at least:
    • 4 years of relevant experience for candidates with a bachelor’s degree.
    • 7 years of relevant experience for candidates with a high school diploma.
  • Have experience coordinating or managing renewable energy projects or socioeconomic development projects.
  • Demonstrate experience working with multilateral donors, local authorities, and private-sector partners.
  • Be familiar with monitoring and evaluation tools.
  • Be fluent in both Arabic and English, spoken and written.
  • Be able to prepare reports and monitor data and budgets.
  • Have strong communication, partnership-building, and stakeholder coordination skills.
