UNICEF Health Specialist Job in Damascus in the Field of Vaccines

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has opened applications for the position of Health Specialist – NO-3 in Damascus, Syria. The role focuses on vaccine management, cold-chain systems, and support for the national immunization program.

The position aims to improve the efficiency and sustainability of Syria’s vaccine supply chain and ensure that safe and effective vaccines reach children across the country. The Health Specialist will work with government authorities, the World Health Organization, and international partners to develop policies and procedures related to vaccine stock management, cold-chain equipment maintenance, data analysis, and capacity-building for healthcare workers.

This position forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Syria’s immunization program and address the damage sustained by health facilities, refrigeration equipment, and supply chains. These efforts are intended to increase vaccination coverage and reduce the number of children who have not received essential vaccines.

The responsibilities of the Health Specialist include:

• Providing technical support to improve vaccine supply chain management.
• Promoting the implementation of effective vaccine management practices.
• Building the capacity of staff working in vaccine management and cold-chain systems.
• Overseeing the installation and maintenance of vaccine refrigeration equipment.
• Monitoring preventive maintenance and necessary repairs for cold-chain equipment.
• Improving vaccine stock management to prevent shortages and reduce waste.
• Supporting the establishment and operation of a national logistics working group.
• Collecting and analyzing supply chain data and using it to improve performance.
• Developing national immunization policies, strategies, and guidelines.
• Collaborating with the World Health Organization, government authorities, and technical partners.
• Supporting vaccine delivery to the areas and communities most in need.
• Ensuring the quality and safety of vaccines are maintained until they reach beneficiaries.
• Contributing to the introduction of new vaccines and improving vaccination coverage and equity.

Applicants must:

• Hold a master’s degree or equivalent in one of the following fields:
  • Public health
  • Nutrition
  • Child health
  • Family health
  • Health research

  • Biostatistics

  • Health education
  • Business administration
  • Supply chain management

• A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field may be accepted in place of a master’s degree, provided the applicant has two additional years of relevant professional experience.
• Have at least five years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Public health planning and management
  • Maternal, child, and newborn health
  • Vaccine cold-chain management
  • Health and humanitarian emergency preparedness and response
• Be fluent in English.
• Have strong skills in managing vaccine systems and cold chains.
• Be able to analyze program data and support evidence-based decision-making.
• Be capable of building the capacity of healthcare workers and teams.
