Al Safar - In the footsteps of Ibn Battuta association in partnership with Darb 1718 is offering a grant for projects addressed to resident artists in Egypt developing an artistic practice around the photo medium (documentary photography, photo collage, photo calligraphy, etc). The winner will be selected by an international jury, and will have Carte Blanche to carry out a photographic work around the theme: “The Multiple States of Youth”.
The production phase shall last 2 months for a scheduled delivery on October 30, 2019
Carte Blanche Egypt Participation Conditions:
- Candidates must be an Egyptian resident under 40 years of age.
- Candidates must submit a photography project.
- The photography project must be carried out in the country where this call for projects is launched.
The winner of the call for project will benefit from:
- A € 5,000 creation grant.
- A support program (creation, post-production, curation).
- The display of his/ her work as part of Cairographie, a group show dedicated to photography and videography at Darb 1718 in November 2019.

Al safar - In the footsteps of Ibn Battuta Association is a cultural project development platform that defends intercultural tolerance. Through the Carte Blanche project launched in several countries, in partnership with Darb 1718 - intends to give strong impetus to the emergent photo creation in the MENA region by developing a grants system for creation as well as a support and dissemination program for the winning artists.#
