<p>The Berkeley <a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/opportunity/category/Competitions-and-Awards" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>Award</strong></a> invites all students enrolled in any recognized undergraduate program and students pursuing a diploma in architecture to submit a 500-word proposal in English on how urban buildings create society, in order to enter the competition. Architecture students must collaborate with undergraduate students from arts and social sciences programs to make proposals in teams of two. The jury will select approximately 25 to 28 winning entries from the set of proposals received, and those finalists will be invited to the semi-finals to submit a 2500-word essay, again in English, to broaden their proposals. A group of readers from jury members and invited colleagues will select five to eight of the best essays and these final essays will be sent to a jury of international academics and architects to select the winners. All semi-finalists will be invited to apply for the Berkeley <a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/opportunity/category/Fellowships" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>Fellowship</strong></a>.</p><h3>Eligibility:</h3><ul><li>All proposals must be submitted by a two-member team. &nbsp;</li><li>Essays must be submitted in English.</li><li>Both finalists will be required to provide proof of current registration in the faculty. You are still eligible to compete if both of you were an <a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/opportunity/category/Scholarships/Bachelor" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">undergraduate</a> student on September 15, 2020, but one or both of you can graduate before the awards are scheduled to be given.</li><li>One member of the team must be a current full-time registered student in an undergraduate architecture degree program or an undergraduate majoring in architecture in an accredited school of architecture.&nbsp;</li><li>Students who haven&#39;t completed their Diploma yet are also eligible.&nbsp;</li><li>The other member of the team must be a current full-time registered student in a non-architecture undergraduate degree program and majoring in that program in an accredited school worldwide. &nbsp;This could include urban studies, social sciences, engineering, etc.&nbsp;</li><li>Both student&#39;s names must appear on their proposal and essay and if they awarded the prize, the prize will be equally shared.</li></ul><h3>Prize:</h3><p>The total value of the prize is 35,000 USD, a minimum of 9,000 USD for the first winner. The remaining purse is to be allocated at the discretion of the Jury.</p><h3>About the Prize:</h3><p>The Berkeley Undergraduate Prize for Design Excellence endowment was established in the department of architecture at the university of California, Berkeley college of environmental design to promote the investigation of architecture as a social art.
