Opportunity description

The Giulio Regeni Memorial Fellowship provides support to an outstanding new or continuing graduate student who wishes to pursue full-time study in one of the graduate programs of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at AUC.

Duration:

  • The fellowship is awarded for one semester, subject to renewal for up to two years upon the recommendation of the department and/or school.
  • It may be renewed for a second year with the approval of the school dean.

Responsibilities of Fellows:

  • In support of their professional training, fellows are assigned 12 hours per week of related academic work
  • A Teaching Assistantship mandatory training must be completed if the fellow is involved in teaching assistantship duties. 
  • The training needs to be completed only once

Responsibilities of Teaching Assistants:

  1. Attend and observe classes of the course to which they are assigned.
  2. Take attendance in classes, labs and in presence of the course instructor.
  3. Run trials of the work to be carried out by students prior to the lab.
  4. Support students in carrying out experimental and creative work in labs.
  5. Assist in preparing answer keys for assignments, where applicable.
  6. Assist in grading the quantitative components of the course, weighted assessments such as assignments, quizzes, reports and exams.
  7. Assist in recording and calculating students’ grades.
  8. Assist in uploading course material onto online course management tools (e.g. Blackboard).
  9. Assist in preparing course material under the guidance of the course instructor.
  10. Conduct revision, review, and problem sessions which do not require the introduction of new materials to students.
  11. Lead in-class discussions and group activities which do not require the introduction of new materials to students.
  12. Assist in proctoring quizzes and exams, in the presence of the course instructor.
  13. Hold office hours.

Benefits

The fellowship covers:

  • Tuition fees for a maximum of nine credits per semester
  • Student services and activities fee


Eligibility criteria

  • Full admission to one of the graduate programs in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
  • Bachelor degree with a minimum overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent.
  • For continuing students; to retain the fellowship, the recipient must maintain a GPA of 3.2 .
  • Financial need.

Eligibility of Teaching Assistants:

  1. Hold a bachelor or master degree in a field relevant to the course(s) he/she would be supporting. 
  2. Have a GPA of at least 3.2 in the latest degree he/she holds.
  3. Be competent in the field of relevance to the course(s) he/she would be supporting.
  4. Have good English language skills and communication and interpersonal skills.
