Opportunity description

The University of Canterbury, in cooperation with T W Adams Forestry School, is offering scholarships in the forestry field. The scholarship aims to promote scientific research related to forestry and help the researchers with sufficient funding to reach more scientific conclusions related to Forestry in order to preserve the earth’s forests.

What Will the Scholars Get?

  • Scholarships may be used to contribute towards a living allowance, tuition fees or both. The amount of the award will take into consideration the amount available for distribution each year.
  • The living allowance shall comprise a stipend paid in monthly installments to the scholar. This allowance may be paid in addition to other awards, unless the conditions of the other award preclude it, provided that the Council may, in determining the amount of the award, take into account the number and nature of any other awards held by the applicant.

The Regulations:

  • A scholarship or scholarships shall be available annually to promote MForSc (Master in Forestry Science) or Ph.D. studies in the School of Forestry.
  • A scholarship shall be tenable initially for one year in the case of a scholar studying for the MForSc degree and for two years in the case of a scholar studying for the Ph.D. degree. In either case a scholarship may be extended for a further year, on the recommendation of the Academic Board
  • Applicants for scholarships can be of any nationality.
  • The scholarships shall be awarded by the University Council on the recommendation of the Academic Board.
  • If in any year the total sum awarded is less than the amount available for distribution, the balance may either be added to the capital of the fund, or held in reserve to provide an additional scholarship in a subsequent year, as the Council may determine.
  • A scholarship may be terminated by the Council at any time on receipt of a report from the Academic Board that the conduct or progress of the scholar has been unsatisfactory.
  • Conditions of the award of the scholarships may be varied from time to time by the University Council on the recommendation of the Academic Board.
