Funded Fellowships for Postdoctoral Researchers from Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey

The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) is offering research fellowships for outstanding researchers and researchers in their early career stages with the aim of attracting them to come to Turkey and conduct their research in the leading Turkish industrial or public academic institutions.

BİDEB 2232-A International Fellowship for Outstanding Researchers Programme

• The fellowship period is a minimum of 24 months and a maximum of 36 months.
• Initial Research Grant (Lump Sum) for Experienced Researchers: 1.000.000
• Scholarship for the Coordinator: 24.000
• Research Project Grant: Up to 720.000
• Family Allowance for the Coordinator: 2.250
• Travel allowance: Cost of flight tickets for arrivals
• Scholarship for Establishing Research Team (for expenses related up to 5 postgraduate students or postdoc researcher)
  • MSc full / part-time scholarship (3,500 TL / 550 TL)
  • PhD full / part-time scholarship (4,500 TL / 800TL)
  • Post-Doctoral Researcher full-time scholarship: (6.000TL)
• Institutional Share Allowance for Host Institution: 3.750
• Project incentive bonus for Researchers: 750
• Health insurance for the coordinator and his/her family: Per person 100

2232-B International Fellowship for Early-Stage Researchers Programme

• The fellowship period is a minimum of 24 months and a maximum of 36 months.
• Initial Research Grant (Lump Sum) for Experienced Researchers: 500.000 TL
• Scholarship for the Coordinator: 20.000 TL
• Research Project Grant: Up to 720.000 TL
• Family Allowance for the Coordinator: 2.250 TL
• Travel allowance: Cost of flight tickets for arrivals.
• Scholarship for Establishing Research Team (for expenses related up to 5 postgraduate students or postdoc researcher)
  • MScfull / part time scholarship (3,500 TL / 550 TL)
  • PhDfull / part time scholarship (4,500 TL / 800TL)
  • Post-Doctoral Researcher full time scholarship (6.000TL)
• Institutional Share Allowance for Host Institution: 3.750 TL

BİDEB 2232-A International Fellowship for Outstanding Researchers Programme

• Researchers applying to the program are obliged to be working abroad as of the first day of the application.
• Researchers, who will apply to the program, shall not be located in Turkey for more than 6 months within the last 3 years as of the first day of the application.
• Any one (a/b) of the criteria below should be met.
  • Researchers who have completed their doctoral degrees and at least 4 years have worked for in a university or public research center abroad as at least assistant professor, team leader or carried out independent academic research
  • Graduate researchers who have 6-year full-time research experience abroad, provided that they work in the private sector for a minimum of 3 years (Maximum 1 year of master degree (with thesis) completed abroad and maximum 3 years of doctoral degree completed abroad is evaluated within this scope).
• Researchers must meet one of the following requirements:
  • Being on the "Highly Cited Researchers List" published by Thomson Reuters in any year within the last three years as of the first day of the application.
  • Working uninterruptedly for 12 months at least in an institution among those ranked below in any year within the last 5 years as of the first day of the application:
  • Top 100 universities in the field-based rankings according to QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) or THE (Times Higher Education) World University Ranking.
  • World’s Top 2500 Industrial R&D Investment Scoreboard published by the European Commission Joint Research Centre.
  • Top 250 institutions in the sub-fields of health, higher education, public and private sectors according to Scimago Institutions Ranking.
  • Successful start-up and unicorn companies receiving the most investment.
  • “Unicorn” companies list published by CBInsights and reached 1 billion USD and overvaluation from its venture level.
  • Top 1000 companies founded within the last 5 years and received the most investment in the last 5 years according to databases of Crunchbase and CBInsights.

2232-B International Fellowship for Early-Stage Researchers Programme

• Researchers applying to the program are obliged to be working abroad as of the first day of the application and they must be under the age of 40. For women applicants, one year is added for each birth.
• Researchers, who will apply to the program, shall not be located in Turkey for more than 6 months within the last 3 years as of the first day of the application.
• Any one (a/b) of the criteria below should be met.
  • Early career researchers who have completed their doctoral degrees within the last 4 years and who have at least 1-year of post-doctoral work experience abroad,
  • Graduate researchers who have 4-year full-time work experience abroad, provided that they work in the private sector for at least 1 year (Maximum 1 year of a master degree (with thesis) completed abroad and maximum 3 years of doctoral degree completed abroad is evaluated within this scope).
• Researchers must meet one of the following requirements:
  • Being on the "Highly Cited Researchers List" published by Thomson Reuters in any year within the last three years as of the first day of the application.
  • Working uninterruptedly for 12 months at least in an institution among those ranked below in any year within the last 5 years as of the first day of the application:
  • Top 100 universities in the field-based rankings according to QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) or THE (Times Higher Education) World University Ranking.

Required Documents:

• Up-to-date curriculum vitae in the format required by TÜBİTAK.
• Research plan and project proposalform to be prepared by the applicant coordinator, covering his/her arrival reason, research projects/plans he/she will carry out upon his/her arrival, and post-program career plan.
• Documents proving residency abroad as of the first day of the application.
• Original or certified copy of the graduation certificate related to the application (A certified English translation must be submitted if the diploma is not in Turkish or English).
• Document(s) proving that researchers have full-time research experience abroad (for example, a certificate of employment obtained from human resources showing the applicant’s position, working hours, and duration of employment).
• An invitation letter signed by the rector (chancellor) or vice-rector if the host institution where the project will be carried out is a university, by the director of the host institution is a research infrastructure competent within the scope of Law no. 6550, by company executive or his/her authorized representative if the host institution is a private sector company or any other public institution/organization.
• Documents Required to Initiate the Fellowship:
• The coordinator must submit the following documents to TÜBİTAK and initiate research within 12 months at the latest upon the notification of the fellowship decision.
• A letter of commitment concretely specifying the benefits that will be provided to the coordinator during the research period, and, in case the host institution is a university, containing course(s) to be lectured by him/her,
• Originals or certified copies of the work experience document(s) and graduation certificate uploaded to the system during the application,
• Ethics Committee Approval, if required,
• For candidates requesting family allowance, copy of register obtained from e-devlet; for foreign researchers marriage certificate and/or birth certificate,
• Approved Application Form (signed version of the form created by e-bideb).
