Opportunity description

The Culture Resource ,in cooperation with the British Council, invites within Mudawanat Program the cultural actors, artists, writers and unsolicited podcasters from different disciplines and encourages individuals who feel that they lack the means to start a podcast to join a training workshop in November 2019, where they will attend learn to prepare, script, and execute their projects. Twelve contributors from throughout the region will be selected to take part in the training and production of the first two seasons of podcast episodes. During the workshop, the theme of the series will be outlined collectively. Each participant is then expected to develop their own and/or collaborative ideas in line with the proposed theme.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Applicants must be from an Arab country, regardless of ethnic background, citizenship status or whether they reside in the Arab region or abroad.
  2. The project targets artists from all disciplines (visual arts, performing arts, literature, music, etc.) and cultural actors working independently or with arts and culture initiatives, organizations and cooperatives. 
  3. The project is also open to published podcasters.
  4. Applicants must be at least 18 years old; otherwise, applications must be submitted by an adult on their behalf, with written consent from their parents or guardians.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Each application is approved based on the assessment criteria set by Culture Resource and the British Council.
  2. All applications submitted by the submission deadline are screened based on the applicant’s eligibility and the fulfillment of the application requirements explained in the application guidelines, including the thorough completion of application form and inclusion of the required supporting documents.
  3. All applications that meet all the requirements are submitted to a three-member independent jury.
  4. The jury consists of cultural actors or artists with recognized expertise in the Arab and international cultural scenes from diverse disciplines and backgrounds. Geographic and gender diversity are taken into consideration when selecting the jury members.
  5. The jury members assess the applications and select the participants on the basis of a set of established criteria decided by Culture Resource and the British Council, considering mainly applicants’ interests, previous engagements and the originality of their proposal.

Contractual Procedures and Obligations:

  1. After the results are announced, Culture Resource sends agreements to the grantees that explain, in detail, the scope, conditions, and duration of the project.
  2. How the production allowances are disbursed: Participants receive a first installment (60 to 80% of the grant) after attending the training workshop, and a second installment (20 to 40% of the grant) upon publishing the two episodes.
  3. If a selected participant does not sign the agreement within 30 days after it was sent, the grant will be annulled.
  4. The participants must comply with the communication guidelines assigned by Culture Resource and received with the agreement.
  5. In the event that the intended participation does not take place – due to reasons including but not limited to personal or health reasons – the contract is canceled and annulled.
  6. The participant is solely responsible for obtaining a visa for the country where the training workshop will take place. Culture Resource shall write a recommendation letter to the concerned embassy to support the visa application, should a participant request such a letter. The Visa fees will be reimbursed by Culture Resource.

Project Schedule:

The deadline for application is 31 August 2019 at 11:00 PM Beirut time.

The results will be announced on 7 October 2019.

The training workshop will take place on November 2019

The first and second season will be published respectively in February 2020 and May 2020.
