Opportunity description

The King Abdullah II Fund for Development launched the sixth edition of the Democratic Empowerment Project, one of the community leadership projects entail providing technical and financial support to ideas and projects that provide the youth with tools to express themselves and issues they face in their local communities and raise awareness among them on issues of culture and arts. It aims at producing creative works in different fields of arts to effectively contribute to the development of governorates so they become hubs for culture and arts.

The project was launched in 2014 as part of efforts by the King Abdullah II Fund for Development to support ideas, projects and programs aimed at enhancing entrepreneurship and innovation and developing citizens' talents and providing incentives to the talented.
Under the project, the King Abdullah II Fund for Development provides financial support that does not exceed 5,000 JD for individuals and youth groups. For civil society organizations, the support ranges from 5,000 JD to 40,000 JD. In addition, training in accounting and strategic planning is provided under the scheme. A committee comprising seven members is in charge of studying and evaluating applications.

Objectives:

  • Providing tools to the youth to help them express themselves and highlights issues of concern in their local communities.
  • Raising awareness among the youth on issues of culture and arts and creating platforms for the exchange of views.
  • Contributing to the development of governorates to become hubs for culture and arts.
  • Producing innovative works in the various fields of arts to enrich the content that is focused on values and practices that project aims at promoting.

Achievements:

  • In 2014, the project extended support to the 7th Hakaya Festival, Khan Al Funoun Festival, Music for Petra Concert and mobile puppet theater.
  • In 2015, the project supported the mobile museum project, Al Balqa Choir project, the Freedom Messengers project, among others.
  • In 2016, the project extended support to Al Balqa Choir project, Jordan Heritage Exhibition, Matar Project, among others.

Who can enroll in the project?

For individuals:

  1. Applicant must be Jordanian or a holder of special ID cards issued for children of Jordanian women married to foreigners.
  2. Applicant must be 18 years old and more.
  3. An applicant seeking support must be the one behind the idea of the initiative of the project.
  4. Applicant must possess the required technical talent if applying to get support for a technical project and the required level of knowledge if applying for support for a cultural project

For civil society organizations:

  1. The organization must be a not-for-profit Jordanian entity.
  2. The organization must be registered with the specialized authorities and has been operating in its field of work for no less than one year when submitting an application for support.
  3. The project submitted for receiving support must fall in line with the objectives and mission of the organization.
  4. The project should not be funded by any other entity when submitting the application.

Achievements:

During 2014, the Democratic Empowerment Project supported the 7th Hakaya Festival, the Khan Art Festival, the Petra Music Festival, and the Touring Puppet Theater Project. In 2015, the project supported both the Touring Museum, the Balqa Choir Project, the Reform Society and the Freedom Apostles Project. As well as supporting the project during the 2016 Classic of the Matar Project, the Balqa Choir, I will tell you in addition to the Jordan Heritage Fair. In 2017, Madrasati project, Nabat Jordan project, Jordan Valley project, Mattar project, Jordan Heritage project and Crime free web.
