King Faisal Foundation is accepting nominations for King Faisal Prize 2021.
KFP Objectives:
- Ingraining Islamic values and ideals in the society and highlighting them to the world.
- Serving Islam and Muslims culturally, intellectually and practically.
- Benefiting Muslims in their present and future, and inspiring them to develop and participate in all aspects of civilization.
- Contributing to the development of mankind and enriching human knowledge.
Prize categories:
- Service to Islam.
- Islam studies.
- Arabic language and literature.
- Medicine.
- Science.
Nomination status:
- Nominations are accepted from universities and Islamic organizations and institutions.
- Nominations aren’t accepted from individuals and political parties.
- Nominations aren’t accepted posthumously.
- A candidate should have leading role in providing intellectually and practically services to Islam and Muslims, though various acts, activities, programs, and projects having positive impact on Muslim community.
- Laureates shall not be awarded the prize again.
- More than one candidate could be nominated, irrespective of their affiliation with the nominating institution.
Requirements from nominating body:
- An official letter of nomination for each nominee separately, adequately justifying the nomination and outlining the nominee’s to Islam and Muslims.
- A general information form to be filled by the nominee, this form can be duplicated if more than one candidate is nominated.
Requirements from each nominee:
- A cv of the nominee.
- A letter of commitment to present two lectures in his/her field of specialization, and academic institutions in the event s/he is awarded the prize.
- A recent color-photo of the nominee with high resolution.
Prize Components
Each of the five prize categories is comprised of:
- A Certificate written in Arabic calligraphy and signed by the Chairman of the Prize board, His Royal Highness Prince Khalid Al-Faisal Bin Abd Al-Aziz, enclosed in a binder of the finest leather inscribed with the winner’s name and a summary of his/ her work which qualified him/her for the prize.
- A 24 carat gold medal, weighing 200 grams, with one side bearing the liking of King Faisal, and the prize category written in Arabic, and the other holding the logo of the prize and the Prize category in English.
- A check of SAR 750 thousand (an equivalent of USD 200 thousand), distributed equally between the winners if they are more than one.
About King Faisal Prize:
Launched by the King Faisal Foundation (KFF) and granted for the first time in 1979, the King Faisal Prize (KFP) recognizes the outstanding works of individuals and institutions in five major categories: Service to Islam, Islamic Studies, Arabic Language and Literature, Medicine, and Science. Its aim is to benefit Muslims in their present and future, inspire them to participate in all aspects of civilization, as well as enrich human knowledge and develop mankind. KFP winners are evaluated only based on merit and their works are meticulously examined by specialized selection committees. The strict selection procedure meets international standards, and many of the laureates who have been awarded the prize went on to receive other prestigious prizes, such as the Nobel Prize.
