Opportunity description

Fulbright Egypt is offering post-doctoral research grants for Egyptian researchers within the Fulbright Egyptian Scholar Program. This program provides opportunities for Egyptian post-doctoral faculty members in all fields to conduct research at U.S. institutions with a duration of three to nine months.

Eligible Fields:

  1. All fields are eligible.

  2. Scholars applying in medicine, veterinary medicine, nursing, psychological counseling and dentistry fields should be aware that their research cannot include clinical studies.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Egyptian citizenship; holders of U.S. green cards and/or passports are ineligible.

  2. Applicants must reside in Egypt starting from the application process and throughout the selection, placement and pre-departure processes.

  3. Academic faculty member of an Egyptian university or research institute/center.

  4. Ph.D. is required.

  5. Excellent command of English.

  6. Applicants have to successfully complete all the steps of the application, assessment, and selection process and successfully finalize all required procedures.

  7. The following persons and their immediate family members (i.e. spouses and children) are ineligible to apply during and for a period ending one year following the termination of such employment: employees of the U.S. Department of State; local employees of the U.S. missions abroad who work for the U.S. Department of State and/or the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID); employees at organizations implementing exchange programs for the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the Department of State; as well as Board Members or staff of a Fulbright Commission or their families (up to fourth kin).

Conditions:

  1.  The Fulbright Egyptian Scholar Program seeks applicants that have developed a sense of personal integrity and are original thinkers. 
  2. Copying someone else’s writing, whether from the Internet, from a book or from a friend is considered plagiarism. 
  3. Any quoted words or sentences should include a citation. An applicant who is found to have plagiarized in any form (including unintentional or accidental plagiarism) in his or her application will be disqualified.

  5. Preference will be given to applicants without recent prior significant experience in the U.S. and/or overseas.

Grant Benefits:

  1. Stipend.
  2. Professional and excess baggage allowances.
  3. Health benefits coverage.
  4. Note: International travel is not covered by the grant and is normally provided by the grantee’s home institution.

Program Timeline:

  1. February 12, 2020: Program Announcement
  2. July 25, 2020: Deadline for submitting online applications
  3. August 2020 – November 2020: Application Review
  4. December 2020/January 2021: Personal Interviews (Only for shortlisted applicants)
  5. February 2021: Official Nomination/Regret Letters (Applicants will be notified via email)
  6. March/April 2021: Post-Nomination Orientation (Only for nominated applicants)
  7. July 2021: Pre-Departure Orientation (Only for selected applicants)
  8. August 2021 – May 2022: Departure Date (Only for grantees who successfully completed all above stages)
