Opportunity description

The Rashid Bin Humaid Award for Culture and Science invites writers to participate in the 38 editions of 2021. The award aims to achieve distinct cultural development for society, support the scientific research movement, enrich cultural life, publish research, specialized studies, and creative work.

Award Categories:

Scientific Research:

Applied scientific research and pure science include:

  • Engineering

  • Literary criticism.

Rules and Condition:

  • Clarity of the subject of the research and its relevance to the title. The importance of research and its methodology. Previous studies and their compatibility with the idea of research. Analysis of results and the way they are presented. The balance between the sections of the study scientific additions. The emergence of the personality of the researcher. The possibility of applying the proposals contained in the results of the research. Scientific documentation with the novelty and originality of references. The integrity of the language and the absence of typographical errors.
  • Scientific authenticity of research.
  • The participating search title does not exceed 15 words.
  • The applicant must be a citizen of the GCC countries or a resident in the GCC.
  • The research should not be in a university letter discussed before.
  • The search should be in Arabic.
  • The research should include a summary in Arabic (max 250 words).
  • The search does not exceed 40 pages or (10,000) words including the images and tables.
  • The number of lines per page of A4 should not exceed 25 lines. The font type is simplified Arabic and the font size should be a max of 16 or 14.
  • The research should be documented by references and sources in accordance with the principles of scientific research, and the verses should be numbered, the surah is mentioned from the Holy Qur'an, and the hadiths are produced with their authentic chain of narrators (if any).
  • The applicant should participate in only one of the topics raised within different topics.
  • That the work is new and has not previously been submitted to another award or scientific conference or has been previously published. The researcher must attach a letter pledging to bear responsibility for violating this condition and the consequences thereof. To download the pledge letter, click here
  • Use the punctuation that is common in the Arabic style of writing, and adjust the words that need to be adjusted in order to achieve linguistic integrity.
  • The winner for two consecutive years of the award is not entitled to participate in the following year.
  • Works that violate the terms of the competition will not be considered and will be disqualified before being sent to the jury.
  • The winning works are considered the property of the prize and the winner may only dispose of them with the written consent of the prize.

Literary Creativity:

  • Poetry.
  • Short story.
  • The novel.
  • Theatrical texts.
  • Children's literature.

General Conditions:

Eloquent poetry, both vertical and modern:

Vertical poetry:

  • The verses of the poem shall not be less than twenty-five verses and not more than thirty verses.
  • The poem should be rhyming poetry in classical Arabic.
  • The participant must be a citizen of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Modern poetry:

  • The poem should be in classical Arabic.
  • The poem adheres to the unity of the metaphor.
  • The poem should not exceed three hundred (300) words.
  • The participant must be a citizen of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Folk Poetry:

The same conditions of vertical hair.

Short Story:

  • That the story deals with a general social issue or a humanitarian issue.
  • The story should not exceed four thousand (4000) words.
  • The story should be written in Classical Arabic.
  • The participant must be a citizen of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Novel:

  • The novel discusses a social or humanitarian topic or one of the social and human values.
  • The novel should be about (30,000 words) and not more than (32,000) words or (100-110 pages), A4 size.
  • The novel should be written in Classical Arabic.
  • The participant must be a citizen or resident of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Theatrical Texts:

  • That the play discusses a social or humanitarian issue or one of the social and human values.
  • The play should be about (40,000 words) and not more than (45,000 words) or 130-150 pages, A4 size.
  • The play is of two or three scenes or four to five scenes.
  • The play must be written in Classical Arabic.
  • The participant must be a citizen or resident of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Children's Literature:

  • Children's literature (poetry or story) should discuss a social or humanitarian topic or one of the social and human values.
  • The participant's work must address one of the three age stages (6-8 years), (8-12 years), and (12-15 years). The participant must indicate the age stage that he chose to write.
  • The participant must choose only one of the topics of children's literature.
  • The participant must submit one literary text in the field of participation.
  • The participant must be a citizen of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

General Conditions for Literary Creativity:

  • The applicant should participate in only one of the topics raised within different topics.
  • That the work is new and has not previously been submitted to another award or scientific conference or has been previously published. Research Funded by the Award:

Due to the importance of scientific research in supporting the process of development, the award has created a new area under the title funded research. Through this field, the award seeks to compete for funding for original research related to the UAE and its issues, prepared by researchers from colleges, universities, and scientific research institutes.

Rules and Conditions:

  • The researcher must be a citizen or resident of the United Arab Emirates.
  • The research should address one of the areas related to the United Arab Emirates.
  • The research must be submitted according to the form prepared for that.
  • Scientific and applied research must be submitted in either Arabic or English, while humanities studies should be submitted in Arabic only.
  • The research project must have the necessary approvals from the scientific department, the deanship of the faculty, and the rest of the other committees at the university, and it must be sent for the award according to an official letter.
  • Each university must nominate a maximum of two projects per course.
  • The research project will be selected by the competent authority in the award according to specific regulations.
  • The award must transfer the entire amount of funding to the winning party, provided that the amount is disbursed in accordance with the controls and steps of research completion.
  • The researcher provides the award with a preliminary report on the research at the start of the project, indicating the start date and any other information he deems appropriate.
  • The researcher provides the award with a complete copy of the final report.
  • At the end of the research, the researcher presents the research and its findings by holding a symposium in this regard.
  • In the event that the research is published or presented in any media, it must be noted that the research is funded by the Rashid Bin Hamid Prize for Culture and Science, in agreement with the authority that took over the supervision of the research.

Competition Prizes:

Scientific Research:

  • First place: 20,000 dirhams.
  • Second place: 15,000 dirhams.

Literary Creativity:

Theatrical and novel:

  • First place: 15,000 dirhams.
  • Second place: 10,000 dirhams.

The story, poetry, and children's literature:

  • First place: 10,000 dirhams.
  • Second place: an amount of 7000 dirhams.
  • Research funded by the award: 50,000 dirhams.

About the Rashid Bin Humaid Award for Culture and Science:

The Rashid Bin Hamid Prize for Culture and Science was established in 1983 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamid bin Rashid al-Nuaimi, a member of the Supreme Council, and the ruler of Ajman emirate in memory of his father, His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Hamid al-Nuaimi, who was a lover of science and for the sake of spreading knowledge on the basis of deep faith in God and pride in the eternal values of Islam and its glorious civilization.
