Opportunity description
In its first year, Lead 2030 will provide $500,000 to the most impactful youth-led initiatives, businesses or movements that are making a tangible impact on a selected Sustainable Development Goal. Funding is equally divided across different SDG Challenges, each of which is supported by a Lead 2030 Challenge Partner. In addition to funding, each Challenge Winner will be connected with a team of expert mentors from the supporting business and its partners.
Challenges:
- How to end hunger by 2030?
- How do we fight the growing burden on non-communicable disease worldwide?
- Preparing young people with the skills to succeed in 2030
- Education: Generating Returns. Sustainably.
- How do we achieve universal access to equitable sanitation and hygiene by 2030?
- How do we increase the share of renewable energy by 2030?
- How can we re-imagine solutions to finance the growth of SMEs and trade to unlock prosperity for the world’s communities?
- Turning waste to landfill generated by the packaging industry into raw materials of inherent value.
- Scalable partnerships to accelerate education, literacy and skills development.
Grant Value:
Winner solutions will get:
- A $50,000 grant from the challenge sponsor.
- 12 months of mentorship from a team of the sponsoring company employees and partners. The mentorship team will work to accelerate the winning solution by assisting with aspects such as:
- Business strategy.
- Best practices for data collection.
- Monitoring and evaluation.
- Product design.
- Marketing.
Selection Criteria:
This challenges seek solutions which meet the following criteria:
- Aligned: Evidently aligned with the SDG challenge.
- Youth-led: Founded by a person aged 18 - 30.
- Focused: Well-structured time horizon, identified key stakeholders and beneficiaries, and proposed outcomes that are reasonable and well thought out.
- Proven: Readily available, in or past implementation phase.
- Impactful: Solutions must have a positive social impact, for example generating employment, eradicating poverty, or developing skills.
- Measurable: Impacts of solutions must have been adequately measured and/or be measurable.
- Financially Viable: Must be able to achieve efficiency and to survive on their own through the resources they generate and/or the investments and donations they attract.
- Scalable: Potential to perform as well or better after expanding in scope or size and/or being transported to other regions.
