<p>VSO has announced it&#39;s needed for a <strong>Pediatrician</strong> as a <a href="https://www.for9a.com/opportunity/category/%D9%81%D8%B1%D8%B5-%D8%AA%D8%B7%D9%88%D8%B9" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>volunteer&nbsp;</strong></a>to work in Various locations and various countries- e.g. Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda.&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>About the Role:</strong></h3><p>The objectives of this placement include but are not limited to:</p><ul><li>Build the capacity of health workers and clinical senior staff in the management of essential newborn and maternal care through training, coaching and mentoring to improve the quality of health services.</li><li>Support the development of manuals and protocols for Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU). Advising, where needed, on the NICU refurbishment and set-up process.</li><li>Take the lead in the design of all specialist pediatric medical services (specifically for newborns) working together with hospital/health facility staff</li><li>Strengthen the VSO established NICU to ensure consistent, quality care, including the referral system.</li></ul><h3><strong>Skills, Qualifications and Experience: <br></strong></h3><p><strong>Essentials:&nbsp;</strong></p><ul><li>Qualified medical professional (MD) specialized in pediatrics and preferable further specialization in neonatology.</li><li>Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).</li><li>A minimum of 3-5 years of proven specialist experience and training in pediatrics within a hospital setting of which at least 2 years in neonatal care and department management.</li><li>In the UK applicant need to have completed ST5 prior to departure for most roles, however, doctors at ST3 and ST4 level might be accepted for some placements.</li><li>Prior experience in clinical teaching and mentoring in the area of pediatric care is desirable.</li><li>For roles in Ethiopia please note VSO require fully qualified pediatricians.</li></ul><p><strong>Desirable:</strong></p><ul><li>Work experience as a pediatrician in Africa.</li><li>Experience of department management.</li><li>Excellent team management and leadership skills.</li><li>Resource management: optimization of specialist medical.</li></ul><h3><strong>Allowance:&nbsp;</strong></h3><p>As a VSO volunteer, the applicant will be sharing his skills with local communities on a full-time basis. VSO will cover the volunteer travel, vaccinations, accommodation, and medical insurance costs, along with a local living allowance which will be paid in local currency. This allowance meets reasonable living expenses in the country, but will not be enough to send money home. The applicant will also receive some financial support to contribute to his on-going expenses at home.&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>Accommodation:&nbsp;</strong></h3><p>VSO works with some of the poorest communities in the world which mean accommodation varies and will be basic.&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>About The Organization:&nbsp;</strong></h3><p>VSO is the world&rsquo;s leading international development organisation that works through volunteers to fight poverty.
