Opportunity description

Weill Cornell Medicine’s Division of Medical Ethics invites applications for its 2027 Clinical Ethics Fellowship, a full-time, two-year program in New York City for candidates with a doctoral or terminal degree in a relevant field. The fellowship begins on July 1, 2027, and applications are due by November 15, 2026.

About the Clinical Ethics Fellowship

This clinical and academic fellowship combines supervised practice, structured learning, and mentored scholarship. Its aim is to prepare fellows for expert work in clinical ethics consultation and academic careers in medical ethics. Training is based on the core competencies for clinical ethics consultation established by the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities.

Fellows rotate on adult and pediatric clinical ethics consultation services at Weill Cornell campuses within the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital System in New York City. The work includes real-time clinical consultations and supervised on-call responsibilities. Fellows also visit the partner institution in Houston and rotate on its clinical ethics consultation service.

The academic curriculum includes advanced bioethics topics, shared seminar series, case conferences, and journal clubs. Fellows observe and present at institutional ethics committee meetings. They also teach Weill Cornell medical students and NewYork-Presbyterian house staff as part of the Division’s educational activities. Each fellow engages in mentored medical ethics scholarship, including a capstone project.

The fellowship is part of the New York-Houston Medical Ethics Consortium, comprising Weill Cornell Medical College, the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital System, Houston Methodist Hospital, and Baylor College of Medicine. Joint activities include visiting observerships at consortium hospitals and retreats in Houston and New York. Applicants considering other opportunities can browse fellowships in different fields and other opportunities for youth.
