Opportunity description

The craft and design work grant in Denmark supports craft artists and designers who want to develop their artistic practice, including both established practitioners and people new to the field. Applications go to Statens Kunstfond through the Tilskudsportalen grant portal, with a deadline of February 3, 2027, at 14:00.

About the Craft and Design Work Grant

This grant is intended for the development of an applicant’s own artistic work. It is not funding for specific project costs, such as production or dissemination, and it cannot be used for internship wages or artistic development work at an educational institution. Applicants do not request a particular amount. The grant committee decides the award amount and whether to make a three-year grant. A three-year work grant is worth DKK 855,000.

Applications are assessed on the quality of the artistic production and the applicant’s artistic talent. The committee gives priority to work that is persistent and deeply investigative; work that challenges expectations or prompts reflection; regenerative practice that creates new forms of expression and responsible solutions; and work that engages with perspectives beyond Denmark or collaboration across disciplines. Applicants do not need to address all four priorities. However, the application must give the committee insight into the applicant’s current artistic work. Decisions are based solely on the application submitted for this round, and limited funds mean that not every eligible application can be funded.

Applications must be submitted online through Tilskudsportalen. The application pool opens only one month before the deadline, and the description may change before the portal opens. Applicants should prepare their information and attachments in advance and log in with MitID. Before logging in, they must decide whether to apply as an individual using a CPR number or as an entity using a CVR number, since this affects how the application is processed. Applicants normally receive a decision within 12 weeks after the deadline. A notification email is sent when the decision is available in the applicant’s portal profile, unless email notifications have been turned off.

Applicants looking for other forms of support can browse grants and funding opportunities or explore other opportunities for young people.

Who Should Apply

This grant is for people working in craft or design, whether they have a substantial body of work or are new to the field. Applicants are asked to identify which description fits them; someone who completed their education within the past five years or changed careers may, for example, be considered new to the field. The funding is suited to artists seeking time and support for their own artistic development, rather than financing a defined project or work at an educational institution.
