The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is seeking 2 National UN Volunteers to serve as Finance Associates in Khartoum, Sudan. For a duration of 12 months (with the possibility of extension), volunteers will manage invoice tracking, coordinate VAT exemption processes, and ensure strict compliance with organizational policies and Sudan's VAT regulations.
* Please note this is a FREE opportunity with no application or processing fees. As an onsite, paid National assignment, it provides a monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of USD 1,597.25, a Danger and Hardship Differential (DHD) of USD 575, medical insurance, and other long-term benefits.
Duties & responsibilities
Manage invoice tracking and coordinate the VAT exemption process for all eligible procurements.
Receive, review, and register vendor invoices to identify VAT components and eligibility for exemption.
Prepare and submit formal exemption requests to the VAT Department, including contracts, invoices, and summary letters.
Coordinate with programme sections for invoice certification, service entry sheet (SES) creation, and expenditure approval.
Submit certified invoices to the VISION Hub for payment processing, ensuring VAT status is clearly indicated.
Maintain a comprehensive registry of VAT exemption requests, correspondence, and supporting documentation for audit trails.
Monitor adherence to financial procedures and escalate any compliance issues or operational bottlenecks.
Eligibility criteria
Must be a national, legal resident, or hold refugee status in Sudan.
Hold a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in finance, accounting, or financial operations.
Fluent in both Arabic and English (Required).
Experience in VAT, taxation procedures, or financial compliance is highly desirable.
Must be adaptable, flexible, and willing to live and work in potentially hazardous conditions with physical hardship.
