Universities Canada offers the Flight 302 Legacy Award to support Canadian and international students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs at educational institutions in Canada.
The award was established in memory of the victims of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 and targets students whose fields of study and interests are related to humanitarian and environmental issues, education, arts and social sciences, and aviation.
The 2026–2027 academic year cycle offers up to 42 non-renewable scholarships to help students continue their studies and contribute to the fields and causes that were important to the victims of the flight.
Eligible Fields of Study
Eligible fields include:
- Environmental studies.
- Humanitarian aid.
- Education.
- Arts and social sciences.
- Aviation.
Examples of accepted programs include:
- Marine biology and ocean protection.
- Wildlife and forest conservation.
- Community development and social advocacy.
- Special education and youth education.
- Life skills development and student support.
- Literature and African studies.
- Indigenous studies and international relations.
- International development and globalization.
- Aircraft maintenance.
- Air traffic control and aviation management.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- The applicant must be a Canadian or international student enrolled at a Canadian educational institution.
- The applicant must be enrolled in a full-time study program.
- The applicant must be an undergraduate or graduate student.
- The applicant must have completed at least one academic year of their program at the time of application.
- The applicant must have at least one academic year remaining in the program.
- The applicant’s expected graduation date must be in Spring 2027 or later.
- The applicant must be studying in one of the eligible fields.
- The applicant must explain how their studies are connected to the interests of one or more of the victims of Flight ET302.
- The applicant must demonstrate interest and involvement in humanitarian or environmental causes, or in the aviation field.
- The applicant must demonstrate financial need.

- Proof of completing at least one year of the study program.
- Assessment and recommendation form from a reference person.
- Information demonstrating the applicant’s financial need.
