Opportunity description

Freie Universität Berlin invites students to join FUBiS Term I 2027, a short-term study program in Berlin combining German language courses with subject courses taught in English. The program runs from January 4 to 22, 2027, and registration remains open until November 23, 2026. Students exploring exchange and study-abroad programs can review the course options and schedule before registering.

About the FUBiS Term I 2027 Study Program

Arrival and move-in day is Monday, January 4. A mandatory orientation meeting takes place on Tuesday, January 5, and departure and move-out day is Friday, January 22. Participants cannot combine courses. Enrollment is generally limited to 18 participants per course and 15 in language courses, although larger classes may be permitted in exceptional cases. Course enrollment is guaranteed after registration is complete and the course tuition and program fees have been paid in full.

The German Language and Culture options are semi-intensive courses at beginner A1 and A2, intermediate B1 and B2, and advanced C1 levels. German is the language of instruction. Each course includes 72 contact hours, six per day, and awards six ECTS credits. The listed fee is €1,475 per course. Students develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills while engaging with German culture and the cultural, political and historical context of Berlin and German-speaking countries. The expected prior knowledge varies by level: A1 is for learners with no previous German, A2 for beginners with basic knowledge, B1 for students with sound A2 knowledge, B2 for students with sound B1 knowledge, and C1 for students with sound B2 knowledge.

Subject courses are taught in English and cover European Studies; Law, Society and Politics in Comparative Perspective; Seduction and Terror: Hitler’s Germany; Urban Economics; Sustainable Business: Strategy and Innovation; and The Cold War. Each course has 48 contact hours, normally six per day, awards six ECTS credits and costs €1,475. Teaching may include lectures, literature-based discussions, working-group presentations and visits to institutions or historical sites in Berlin. Field trips and class times may be adjusted depending on appointment and speaker availability.

Course schedules are available through the program page, and the subject-course syllabi provide additional course information and day-to-day schedules. Participants should note that credits can only be awarded to students who are currently enrolled at a university or have previously been enrolled at one.
