FASPE – Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics offers the Law Fellowship 2027, a fully funded international fellowship designed for law students and early-career legal professionals. The program focuses on professional ethics, legal responsibility, and the role of legal practitioners in ethical decision-making.
Selected participants take part in an intensive two-week program in Germany and Poland, combining academic seminars, group discussions, and visits to historical sites connected to Europe’s experience during the Nazi era.
The program uses this historical context as a starting point for examining how lawyers, judges, and legal institutions can contribute to either protecting or undermining justice.
Benefits
Applicants must fall into one of the following categories:
- Be a law student enrolled in a JD program or an equivalent law degree, typically in the second or third year at the time of application.
- Be a law graduate currently working in the legal field, including in a judicial clerkship, and be in the early stages of their professional career.
- In countries where law is studied at the undergraduate level, applicants may be eligible if they have completed the required legal qualification and are working as a trainee or early-career lawyer.
- Demonstrate a clear interest in professional ethics, legal responsibility, and leadership, and be willing to participate in intensive and complex discussions.
- Have a good command of English that allows for active participation in seminars, discussions, and program activities throughout the fellowship.
Eligibility criteria
The FASPE Law Fellowship is fully funded and typically includes:
- Round-trip airfare to Europe.
- Accommodation throughout the program.
- Transportation related to the program in Germany and Poland.
- Group meals.
- An allowance or coverage for some non-group meals and personal expenses.
- Admission fees for historical sites and educational activities.
- Study materials and the full academic program.
- Participation in seminars and discussions led by academics and experienced professionals.
- Membership in the FASPE Fellows network after completing the fellowship.
