The University of Erfurt is now accepting applications for the DAAD’s Helmut-Schmidt-Programme. The Helmut-Schmidt-Programme, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, offers a limited number of scholarships to highly qualified applicants from Africa, Latin America, South Asia, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Scholarships offer highly qualified candidates financial and non-material support for their studies.
Benefits
- The DAAD pays a monthly instalment of 861 EUR.
- Special conditions are laid down for an online semester of the study programme “Analysis and design of social protection systems” with a sur-place-rate of 500 EUR.
- DAAD also pays an appropriate travel allowance and a study and research subsidy of 460 € each year as well as a rent subsidy and/or allowance for spouses and/or children where applicable.
- Health insurance, accident and liability insurance in Germany are also covered by the scholarship.
- All scholarship holders in the Helmut-Schmidt-Programme (Master’s scholarships for Public Policy and Good Governance) are exempted from tuition fees. However, a registration fee of approximately € 250,00 has to be paid for each semester.
Eligibility criteria
- Main DAAD selection criteria are:
- Your study results so far.
- Language skills.
- Political and social engagement.
- A convincing description of the subject-related and personal motivation for your studies in Germany.
- Expected benefit when returning to the home country.
- Your most recent university degree should have been obtained within the six years prior to the application for the scholarship.
- Applicants who have stayed in Germany for more than 15 months at the time of the application deadline are not eligible.
- All Helmut-Schmidt scholars will be invited to attend an additional German language course of generally six months starting in April of the respective year in order to acquire basic knowledge of the everyday language in Germany. If you are already proficient in German, exceptions may be possible.
- Please note that German proficiency is not a requirement for the MPP at the Brandt School, as classes are taught entirely in English.
