The University of Cambridge, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, offers the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program for the 2027/2028 academic year to support academically outstanding young Africans in pursuing a one-year master’s degree at the University of Cambridge, while also developing their leadership skills and capacity to create positive impact in their communities.
The program places particular emphasis on sustainability and climate resilience. Applicants may choose from eligible full-time master’s programs at the university, with the exception of a limited number of professional programs.

Previous versions of the program have also indicated coverage for costs related to visas, health insurance, and travel. However, the current 2027/2028 announcement explicitly mentions tuition fees and the living allowance, so it is better not to list the other items unless they are confirmed on the funding page for the current cohort.
Eligible applicants may also apply for a University of Cambridge application fee waiver, provided they meet the program’s academic requirements.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must:
Hold a bachelor’s degree.
Be a citizen of an African country.
Be residing in an African country, with temporary residence outside Africa permitted for study or work purposes.
Note that certain exceptions apply to refugees and internally displaced persons.
Meet the academic requirements of the chosen master’s program at the University of Cambridge.
Apply to an eligible full-time master’s program.
Demonstrate a commitment to serving their community, country, or Africa more broadly.
Show an interest in and potential contribution to sustainability and climate resilience.
