Opportunity description

The Misk Art Institute, in collaboration with the Montresso Art Foundation, is offering a fully funded international artist residency at the Jardin Rouge art space in Marrakech, Morocco.

The residency is designed for mid-career contemporary Saudi artists. It will provide one Saudi artist with the opportunity to spend two months in Morocco researching and developing a new artistic project, receiving artistic and technical mentorship, and connecting with the Moroccan and international art communities.

The residency is part of an artistic exchange programme. One Saudi artist will be selected to participate in the Jardin Rouge residency in Marrakech, while one Moroccan artist will be selected for a residency at the Masaha art space in Riyadh. The selected artists will also have the opportunity to exhibit their work during the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in Marrakech in 2027.

Residency Duration and Location

  1. Location: Marrakech, Morocco.
  2. Duration: Two months.
  3. Available period: The selected artist must choose two consecutive months between September and December 2026.
  4. Programme language: English.
  5. Number of selected Saudi artists: One artist.

Eligible Artistic Fields

The residency is open to artists working in contemporary visual arts, including:

  1. Drawing.
  2. Painting.
  3. Ceramics.
  4. Photography.
  5. Textile and fiber arts.

Benefits

The residency covers the following for the selected artist:

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Be a Saudi artist.
  2. Be a mid-career contemporary artist.
  3. Practice art professionally on a full-time basis.
  4. Have at least three years of experience in fine arts.
  5. Have a minimum three-year record of participation in artistic exhibitions and events.
  6. Be currently active and committed to their artistic practice.
  7. Work in one of the eligible visual arts disciplines.
  8. Be able to participate in the programme in English.
  9. Be prepared to commit fully to the two-month residency.
