Opportunity description

Harvard Medical School is accepting applications for the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Research Fellowship Awards 2027–2030, a research fellowship program designed to support outstanding researchers from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in conducting advanced medical and biomedical research at Harvard University and its affiliated institutions.

The fellowship provides postdoctoral researchers, scientists, and physician-researchers with the opportunity to work with a faculty mentor and research team at Harvard Medical School, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, or one of Harvard Medical School’s affiliated hospitals and research institutes.

The program supports research that contributes to the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases, with particular interest in health issues and diseases relevant to the Middle East.

Benefits

  • Funding of up to USD 100,000 per year.

  • Funding may continue for up to 3 years.

  • This means the total potential funding can reach approximately USD 300,000 over three years.

    • The researcher’s salary or compensation.

  • The opportunity to carry out an advanced research project and publish its scientific findings.

Eligibility criteria

  • Applicants must meet the following requirements:
    • Be from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

    • Hold one of the following degrees:

      • MD

      • PhD

      • MD/PhD

    • The degree must be in medicine, biomedical sciences, or another health-related field.

    • Have a strong academic and research record and demonstrate clear potential to contribute to research related to human health.

    • Submit an innovative research project that includes new ideas or methodologies.

    • Apply in collaboration with a laboratory or research center at Harvard Medical School, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, or one of Harvard Medical School’s affiliated institutions.

    • Demonstrate the ability to contribute relevant knowledge and expertise to the host laboratory or research center.

    • Be able to obtain the required visa and legal status necessary to work at the host institution.
