Opportunity description
The volunteer will work within the Field Operations and Emergency Section at UNICEF Syria, contributing to efforts to strengthen disaster risk reduction, emergency systems, and resilience in Syria. The role involves collaboration with the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management, government entities, United Nations agencies, and local and international partners.

A monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of USD 3,588.22.
Potential eligibility for a Danger and Hardship Differential, depending on the hardship and security classification of the duty station and the volunteer’s family status.

Duties & responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
Support the development and implementation of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) strategies.
Contribute to the preparation, review, and updating of risk assessments, action plans, and technical documents.
Coordinate workshops, meetings, and consultations with government entities, United Nations agencies, and civil society organizations.
Collect and analyze information related to risks, vulnerabilities, and resilience.
Contribute to the preparation of reports, presentations, and briefing notes.
Monitor project activities and assess progress and challenges.
Integrate considerations related to children, gender, and local communities into disaster risk reduction initiatives.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must be between 18 and 60 years old.
Applicants must be nationals of a country other than the country of assignment; therefore, Syrian nationals are not eligible for this opportunity since the duty station is in Syria.
At least 7 years of professional experience is required.
Fluency in English is required.
Applicants must hold a master’s degree in one of the following fields or a related technical discipline:
Public Administration
Social Policy
International Relations
Environmental Studies
International Development / Development Studies
At least 7 years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
Disaster Risk Reduction
Early Action and Early Response
Public policy in Syria
Government structures and governance
Donor relations
Advocacy or related fields
Knowledge of national systems and global frameworks related to disaster risk reduction.
Strong coordination and facilitation skills for working with government institutions and international partners.
Previous experience with the United Nations, particularly UNICEF, is considered an advantage.
Experience in donor relations and donor reporting is considered a strong asset.
