University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC), in collaboration with the Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS), affiliated with the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), has opened applications for the Doctoral Training Partnership Scholarships 2027, a group of funded PhD scholarships in China for researchers wishing to conduct advanced research in science and engineering.
The research is jointly supervised by academics from University of Nottingham Ningbo China and HIAS, UCAS, with students spending part of their PhD period at each institution according to the needs of the research project. Upon successful completion of the programme, students receive a PhD degree from the University of Nottingham.

Eligibility criteria
To apply for the scholarship, applicants must:
- Meet the admission requirements for the PhD programme at UNNC.
- Typically hold a Master’s degree with a grade equivalent to at least 65% and a Merit classification or above in the UK system.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree equivalent to an Upper Second-Class Honours (2:1) or above.
- International qualifications equivalent to these academic levels are also accepted.
- Some applicants who hold a First-Class Honours Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a strong academic institution may also be considered without a Master’s degree, subject to faculty assessment.
- Have an academic and research background relevant to the selected project.
- Meet the English language requirements for the relevant academic field.
- Submit an IELTS score or an equivalent international English language test result with the scholarship application and before the deadline.
- The scholarship page does not specify a nationality restriction, and the university accepts research degree applications from international candidates.
