Opportunity description

The Institute for Advanced Study in the Global South at Northwestern University in Qatar has opened applications for the Global Undergraduate Fellowship 2026, a distinguished funded fellowship for undergraduate students. The program provides participants with financial and research support to develop original projects focused on issues related to the Global South.

The fellowship runs for a full year, during which each participant works individually to develop an evidence-based research or creative project, with ongoing academic guidance from the Institute’s team, faculty members, and researchers at Northwestern University in Qatar.

This funded fellowship gives students the opportunity to transform their ideas into fully developed projects, which may take the form of a research paper, digital or multimedia project, or short documentary film. Participants also benefit from financial support allocated to both the fellow and their project, as well as research- and travel-related opportunities.

  • Individual academic mentorship from faculty members and the IAS_NUQ team.
  • Participation in specialized research workshops and training sessions.
  • Access to the Institute’s research groups and academic events.
  • Access to university equipment for creative projects and filmmaking, in accordance with university policies.
  • Support in developing and publishing or producing the final project in collaboration with IAS_NUQ Press.
  • The opportunity to present the final project to the Northwestern Qatar and Education City communities.
  • Additional opportunities to present or publish the work at conferences, festivals, and external events, when available.
