Opportunity description
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), through the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, has opened applications for a national volunteering opportunity to serve as a Team Assistant in Beirut, Lebanon.
The assignment lasts for 3 months, with the possibility of extension, and is a full-time, on-site position at United Nations premises. The opportunity aims to support the implementation of ESCWA programmes related to Syria, as well as activities focusing on governance, peacebuilding, post-conflict recovery, public policy, and development in the Arab region.
The volunteer will contribute to administrative and programme coordination, follow up on work plans, organize meetings and workshops, prepare documents and reports, and support monitoring, evaluation, and communication activities. This provides an opportunity to gain practical experience within an international United Nations working environment.

Duties & responsibilities
Key volunteer responsibilities include:
- Providing administrative, operational, and coordination support to ensure the efficient implementation of programme activities.
- Supporting the preparation, implementation, and follow-up of programme work plans, while monitoring activities, outputs, and deadlines.
- Contributing to monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities and updating monitoring tools to track progress.
- Assisting in the preparation of progress reports and monitoring and evaluation outputs.
- Conducting background research and gathering information from various sources to support programmes, reports, and meetings.
- Managing programme documentation, electronic filing systems, databases, and contact lists.
- Coordinating meetings, workshops, steering committee meetings, consultations, and events.
- Preparing required meeting documents, coordinating with participants, and following up on agreed actions.
- Preparing agendas, meeting minutes, summaries, and action points.
- Following up on the implementation of decisions and actions resulting from meetings.
- Assisting in expanding and managing expert networks and coordinating with partner institutions and consultants.
- Monitoring developments in Syria and the Arab region through media and policy sources.
- Preparing short summaries and briefing notes for the programme team.
- Assisting in preparing presentations, communication materials, and outreach content.
- Contributing to updating programme content on websites and in knowledge materials.
- Providing administrative support related to travel, procurement, consultant recruitment, and meetings in accordance with United Nations policies and procedures.
- Carrying out any other related duties assigned by the Programme Manager.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be between 18 and 80 years old.
- Be a Lebanese national, a legal resident of Lebanon, or hold refugee status in Lebanon.
- Have at least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Be fluent in Arabic.
- Be fluent in English.
- Working knowledge of French is considered an additional advantage.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields or a closely related discipline:
- Political Science.
- Law.
- Social Sciences.
- International Relations.
- Development Management.
Preference will also be given to applicants who have:
- Previous experience in a field relevant to the assignment.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of United Nations rules and procedures.
- Previous experience with the United Nations, if applicable.
- Familiarity with the host entity’s internal systems, which is considered an additional asset.
