Opportunity description

Stadtjugendausschuss e.V. Karlsruhe is offering one of the funded international volunteering opportunities for 2027 under the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) to work with the Aktions- und Zirkusbüro project in Karlsruhe, Germany, from March 1, 2027 to February 29, 2028.

The project aims to support children and young people through educational, artistic, and recreational activities inspired by circus arts, including movement games, acrobatics, juggling, and balance activities. The program takes place in an open community environment that welcomes children and young people, including those with special needs.

Volunteers will help organize events and festivals and support the preparation and delivery of educational and creative activities. They will also have the opportunity to develop their own ideas and gain new skills in working with children and young people. The project does not involve circus performances using animals.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Support educational and recreational activities: Assist in preparing and delivering circus-based activities and movement games for children and young people.

  • Organize events and festivals: Help prepare community activities, festivals, and artistic gatherings.

  • Engage with children and young people: Support the participation of children and youth from different backgrounds and with varying abilities.

  • Develop creative initiatives: Suggest and implement new ideas and activities in collaboration with the project team and other volunteers.

Eligibility criteria

  • Have an interest in circus arts, educational activities, and youth development.

  • Have an interest in and some initial experience working with children and young people.

  • Previous experience in circus arts or arts education is considered an advantage, but is not mandatory.

  • No university degree or specialized qualification is required.

  • Have a good command of English.

  • Have basic knowledge of German.

  • Be willing to participate actively in practical and group activities throughout the volunteering period.

  • Commit to submitting the application through the organizer’s designated application portal specified in the announcement.
