Opportunity description

AWO Karlsruhe gemeinnützige GmbH is offering one of the funded international volunteering opportunities under the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) to work at Der kleine Prinz Kindergarten in Karlsruhe, Germany, from December 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027, for approximately 10 months.

The opportunity is designed for young people interested in early childhood education and childcare. Volunteers will work with children aged 0 to 6 years, supporting educators in daily activities such as interactive games, sports, arts, and educational excursions.

The project also gives volunteers the opportunity to gain practical experience in working with children and develop their educational skills, while learning German, taking part in cultural exchange activities, and becoming familiar with German society and culture.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Support educators in daily activities: Assist with educational and recreational activities for children, including games, sports, and arts.

  • Accompany children on excursions: Help organize trips and outdoor activities and support the educational team during their implementation.

  • Assist with daily kindergarten tasks: Provide support in the kitchen and with organizational duties related to childcare.

  • Develop creative activities: Propose and carry out a personal project for the children, if desired, such as crafts or educational games.

Eligibility criteria

  1. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, while also meeting the upper age limit of the ESC program, which is typically 30 years old.

  2. Have an interest in education and early childhood learning.

  3. Be willing to work with children aged 0 to 6 years.

  4. Have basic knowledge of English.

  5. Basic knowledge of German is considered an advantage but is not mandatory.

  6. Have an Accredited Sending Organisation to support their participation in the program.

  7. Be open to German culture and willing to live and work in an international and multicultural environment.

  8. Be able to collaborate with educators and other volunteers and actively participate in daily activities.
