Opportunity description

The Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences at the University of Jyväskylä invites researchers to submit symposium abstracts for the 28th Nordic Congress of Gerontology. The multidisciplinary congress will take place in Jyväskylä, Finland, from 16 to 18 June 2027; symposium abstracts are due by 18 November 2026 at 23:59 (UTC+2).

About the Nordic Congress of Gerontology Symposium Abstract Call

With the theme “Ageing in the Current Light,” the congress brings together research and ideas about ageing through multidisciplinary symposia, oral sessions and poster presentations. The call welcomes contributions reflecting the scientific orientations of the Nordic Gerontological Federation. These include biological and medical sciences, health sciences, behavioural and social sciences, humanities, and social research, policy and practice.

A symposium submission includes an overarching abstract introducing the symposium topic and the perspectives offered by its individual presenters. It must be written in English and may contain no more than 1,750 characters, including spaces, or approximately 250 words. Individual presentation abstracts are submitted as attachments to the overarching abstract. Each individual abstract has the same 1,750-character limit and should include sections on background, methods, results and discussion.

Results must be the work of the listed authors, and all authors and affiliations should appear before the abstract text. The total word count must be stated at the end of each individual abstract. References should not be included in either the symposium overview or the individual presentation abstracts. Spell out abbreviations at first mention, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses, and ensure the text has no typographical or grammatical errors. No changes can be made after the submission deadline. The organisers recommend using the individual-presentation template available on the conference website.

Submissions will be assessed for the quality and relevance of the scientific research and its relevance to the conference audience. The organisers will also consider diversity across topics when developing a balanced programme. Decisions on symposium abstracts are scheduled for 15 December 2026. The call for oral and poster abstracts opens on 16 December 2026, with a submission deadline of 17 January 2027.

Who Should Apply

This call is intended for researchers who want to present ageing-related work within a multidisciplinary symposium. Applicants should have a research contribution that fits one or more of the congress’s scientific orientations and be able to prepare the abstract in English in the required format. Authors should also plan for at least one symposium abstract author to register for the congress if they want to secure a presentation slot.
