Opportunity description
The Margaret McNamara Educational Foundation is offering grants to women in developing countries who are studying at an accredited educational institution in the United States or Canada. These scholarships aim to improve the lives of women and children in their countries.
Benefits
- In past years, grants of up to US$15,000 have been awarded in the US-Canada program. Grant amounts may vary, based on exchange rates and availability of funds.
- Grant funds are disbursed each year in May and June.
Eligibility criteria
- Be a self-identifying woman, and at least 25 years old at the time of application deadline;
- Be a national of one of these countries: Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Syria, Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritania, Tunisia, Libya, Jordan, Iraq.
- Be enrolled (not just accepted) at an accredited academic institution when submitting the application, and plan to be enrolled for a full academic term after award of the grant by the Board;
- Not be related to a World Bank Group, International Monetary Fund, or Inter-American Development Bank staff member or spouse;
- not hold US citizenship or permanent residency (green card) or Canadian citizenship or Canadian landed immigrant status.
