Grants Opportunity for College Students in the animation field From Animation Educators Forum

The Animation Educators Forum is proud to announce its 2021-22 academic year scholarships. Last year, the AEF awarded grants valued at over $40,000 to eleven students. ASIFA-Hollywood’s Animation Educators Forum (AEF) provides an opportunity for the link between the animation industry and students and will provide well-deserved scholarships to students in their journey towards membership in the global animation community.

If you join this scholarship, you will have awards ranged from $2,500 to $5,000 and be applied to:

•  tuition.
•  books and supplies.
• formal academic research.
• animation equipment (including computer hardware and software).
• graduate projects.
• receive a 1-year membership to ASIFA-Hollywood.

You must be met the following criteria : 

1. Applicants must be undergraduate students entering their second year of study or above.
2. Graduate students at all levels.
3. Applicants must have a grade point average of 2.5 or above.
4. Applicants must be attending a college, university, or trade program in the field of animation that is accredited by a recognized accrediting agency.
5. Applicants must plan to attend both semesters of the 2021-22 USA standard academic year (Fall: August to December and Spring: January to June). 
6. Students planning to attend only a portion of the year (ex. Spring semester) are not eligible for the Scholarship.
7. Awards cannot be “reserved” for Spring semester classes nor during a Leave of Absence.
8.  The awardee must be able to provide proof of registration for Fall 2021.
9. Special accommodations may be made for award winners attending Accredited Institutions with academic calendars that do not align with the USA standard Fall/Spring semester schedule.
10. Recipients of the Scholarship in the previous year (2020-21) are ineligible for this year.

Selection Process:

1. All awardees will receive written notification from the AEF Scholarship Committee after August 31, 2021.

• All awardees will be required to provide ASIFA-Hollywood with:
• Permission to use the awardee’s artwork and/or scholarly writings in promoting the Scholarship.
• Midyear and Final Reports that document how the scholarship was utilized
• A brief essay describing how the award supported the student’s educational goals (included with
• the final report).
• A reel, collection of still images, or academic paper showcasing the student’s creative and/or
• scholarly work that the Scholarship Award supported.
• A photographic image that may be used in promoting the scholarship.

About Animation Educators Forum:

Founded In 2008 by a group of Southern California educators formed the Animation Educators Forum to begin a dialogue and share information with all those who teach animation. Thanks to the generous support of ASIFA-Hollywood, the volunteer organization has hosted numerous discussions at industry expositions including yearly “Birds of a Feather “ meet-ups at SIGGRAPH and CTN eXpo and held two Student Film Festivals that led to the Student Annie Award. The AEF holds an Annual General Membership Meeting to discuss relevant topics and announce new opportunities such as the Student Scholarship that it launched in 2015.
