Opportunity description

The Compost Research & Education Foundation (CREF) organizes the annual poster contest as part of International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) 2027, using design and art to raise awareness about the importance of composting and its role in sustainability and environmental protection.

The theme for the 2027 edition is:

All Paths Lead to Compost!

The theme is linked to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 9 (SDG 9): Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, with a focus on innovation, sustainable infrastructure, and the role of composting in the circular economy.

Benefits

  • A USD 500 cash prize for the winner.

  • Participation in the competition is completely free of charge.

  • The winning design will become part of the International Compost Awareness Week 2027 campaign.

  • The winning design will be produced and widely distributed across the United States and internationally to promote the ICAW campaign.

  • The winner will gain international exposure for their work through Compost Awareness Week activities and campaigns.

  • An opportunity to have the work evaluated by a specialized judging panel based on creativity, design quality, clarity of message, and visual impact.

Eligibility criteria

  • Applications are open to participants from all countries worldwide.

  • Applicants must be 14 years old or above.

  • Students, amateurs, artists, and professional designers are eligible to participate.

  • Participation is free of charge.

  • Each participant may submit only one design.

  • The submitted work must be entirely original.

  • The use of artificial intelligence (AI) to create the design is not permitted.

  • The design must not include commercial logos, trademarks, advertisements, or copyrighted materials without permission.

  • If real people appear in the work, signed consent forms must be provided from them, or from a parent or legal guardian if the person is under 18.
