The Vincent van Gogh Photo Award has opened entries for its 2027 edition, an international photography competition inspired by the artistic vision and creativity of Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh.
This edition’s theme is “Spirit of Light”, inviting photographers to submit original work that explores light in a creative and personal way. The competition encourages participants to move beyond conventional approaches and use the camera as a tool for artistic expression.
The competition welcomes entries from both amateur and professional photographers from around the world, and also includes a separate Student Award. Shortlisted and winning images will be presented to an international audience, including through an outdoor exhibition in Nuenen, the Netherlands.

Eligibility criteria
- The competition is open to photographers from countries around the world.
- Both amateur and professional photographers may participate.
- A separate competition is available for students, and only applicants with current student status are eligible for the Student Award.
- Submitted images must relate to the edition’s theme: Spirit of Light.
- Only digital images are accepted.
- Participants may submit up to 3 images per entry.
- Multiple entries are allowed, with each image judged individually.
- Images must not include watermarks, logos, or borders.
- Minor image adjustments are permitted, but substantial manipulation that significantly alters the original content of the image is not allowed.

Main Competition
- 1 image: €18.
- 2 images: €30.
- 3 images: €42.
Student Award
- 1 image: €10.
- 2 images: €15.
- 3 images: €20.
A 20% early-bird discount is also available for registrations completed by September 30, 2026.
