Peace Boat is offering an international volunteer opportunity for Volunteer Interpreters aboard its 126th Global Voyage. Volunteers support communication between participants, speakers, and guests throughout the journey, both onboard the ship and during port visits around the world.
Responsibilities include simultaneous and consecutive interpretation during lectures, meetings, forums, and events; assisting with tours and programs in ports; translating written materials; supporting language-learning programs; and potentially organizing workshops or activities led by the volunteers themselves.

Duties & responsibilities
Provide simultaneous and consecutive interpretation during lectures, meetings, forums, and events onboard the ship.
Support communication between participants, speakers, and guests from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Assist with interpretation during port programs and tours throughout the voyage.
Translate selected written materials, information, and program-related documents.
Support language-learning and cultural exchange programs, with opportunities to contribute to workshops or activities for participants.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must be 18 years old or above. High school students are not eligible.
Applicants must be proficient in two or more of the languages required for the voyage.
Required language combinations include English and Japanese, English and Korean, Japanese and Korean, and Japanese and Chinese, with Spanish accepted as an additional language in some combinations.
Voyage 126 is not currently accepting the English–Chinese language combination.
Applicants must be available for the entire duration of the voyage, including the training and orientation period before departure.
Applicants should have an interest in issues such as sustainable development, the environment, poverty, diversity, Indigenous peoples’ rights, conflict, civil society, and global affairs.
Previous interpreting experience is considered an advantage but is not mandatory.
Proficiency in additional languages such as Arabic or French is considered an additional asset.
