Eligibility criteria
To apply for PhD programs at Khalifa University and be considered for scholarship opportunities, applicants generally must:
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from a recognized university.
- If applying to a PhD program after completing a Master’s degree, hold a relevant Master’s degree.
- Meet the minimum academic GPA requirements:
- At least 3.0 out of 4.0 in the Bachelor’s degree.
- At least 3.25 out of 4.0 in the Master’s degree for the regular PhD track.
- Outstanding students may apply directly to the Direct PhD track after completing a Bachelor’s degree. This usually requires a GPA of at least 3.5 out of 4.0, along with meeting the track’s GRE requirements.
- Demonstrate English language proficiency through one of the following:
- IELTS Academic: at least 6.5, or
- TOEFL iBT: at least 91.
- Submit a Statement of Purpose explaining academic and professional goals.
- Submit a Research Statement outlining research interests and the proposed research plan.
- Provide at least two recommendation letters.
- Have an appropriate academic and research background for the selected field of study.
- Pass an admission interview if invited.
- Obtain a Recognition of University Certificate for qualifications issued outside the UAE, in accordance with the requirements of the UAE Ministry of Higher Education.
- Meet all additional admission requirements for the selected PhD program.
