Opportunity description
The Korea Disability Policy Development Institute (KODDI) announces the opening of applications for the 8th Universal Design Idea Contest 2026, an international competition for design ideas that apply the concept of Universal Design, or “design for all.” The contest aims to create spaces, products, and services that can be used easily and safely by everyone, regardless of gender, age, nationality, or disability.
The competition focuses on expanding the universal design environment through ideas in the fields of architecture, tourism, and products/services, with additional points awarded to ideas related to inclusive sports environments or products.
Available Fields
- Architecture and spatial design: such as residential, commercial, medical, cultural, sports, and interior buildings, as well as urban design and space planning.
- Inclusive tourism: such as designing facilities and spaces in tourist destinations, parks, museums, heritage sites, campsites, and tourist guidance facilities.
- Products and services: such as everyday tools, office supplies, electronic devices, transportation and industrial equipment, furniture, UX/UI, digital kiosks, and educational products.
Benefits
- Cash prizes and certificates will be awarded to winners.
- A Grand Prize worth KRW 3,000,000 will be awarded in each main field.
- Excellence Awards worth KRW 1,000,000 will be awarded.
- Other prizes worth KRW 500,000 and KRW 300,000 will be awarded depending on the category.
- An opportunity to showcase the winning ideas during Universal Design Week 2026.
- The competition is open to everyone, with no restrictions on nationality or age group.
Eligibility criteria
- The competition is open to everyone from different countries around the world.
- Applicants may apply individually or as part of a team of no more than 3 people.
- A team leader must be designated when applying.
- Duplicate applications are not allowed.
- The submission must be an unpublished creative idea or work that has not been produced for sale.
