Online Volunteering Opportunity with Orchid Project in English-to-Turkish Translation

As part of international remote volunteering opportunities, Orchid Project is seeking two volunteers to support a specialized English-to-Turkish translation and proofreading project involving two reports on Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) in Türkiye.

This assignment is part of Orchid Project’s efforts to end the practice globally through research, advocacy, and support for organizations and activists. It offers volunteers the opportunity to apply their language skills to a project connected to human rights, gender equality, law, and women’s health.

The two volunteers will translate and proofread two reports totaling approximately 11,900 words, containing terminology related to criminal law, international conventions, and FGM/C.

• Translate two reports from English into Turkish.

• The first report is approximately 3,850 words.

• The second report is approximately 8,050 words.

• Proofread and review the translations to ensure linguistic and terminological accuracy.

• Work with specialized terminology related to FGM/C, criminal law, and international conventions.

• Collaborate with the other selected volunteer throughout the translation and proofreading process.

• Communicate and coordinate with Orchid Project via email.

Applicants must:

• Have native-level proficiency in Turkish.

• Be fluent in English.

• Have previous experience in English-to-Turkish translation.

• Preferably have experience or knowledge in at least one of the following areas:

  • International law.

  • Human rights.

  • Gender.

  • Women’s health.

  • FGM/C-related issues.

• Have a strong understanding of legal terminology, particularly criminal law terminology, which will be an important factor in the selection process.

• Provide details of previous translation experience in the application.

• Be prepared to translate a short paragraph as part of the selection process, if requested.
